[Podcast] Israel invades Lebanon: fight war, fight imperialism!

The situation in the Middle East is escalating dramatically. Israel’s current invasion of Lebanon has sent shockwaves throughout the region and represents a further step towards the outbreak of a region-wide conflict, risking open war with Iran. As the Middle East grows more unstable, communists need a clear understanding of these events and what we can do to fight against militarism and imperialism wherever we are.

For the first time since 1977, the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) has gone on strike. At midnight on October 1, 47,000 dockworkers walked off the job at 36 ports from Maine to Texas, including important logistical centers like Baltimore; Boston; Charleston, South Carolina; Houston; Jacksonville; Miami; Mobile, Alabama; New Orleans; New York/New Jersey; Norfolk, Virginia; Philadelphia; Savannah, Georgia; Tampa, Florida; and Wilmington, Delaware.

في الساعات الأولى من صباح الأول من أكتوبر، عبر الجيش الإسرائيلي حدود لبنان وبدأ غزوا بريا للبلد، وذلك بعد أسبوعين من الضربات الجوية العنيفة. هذه حرب رجعية تماما، مدعومة وممولة من قبل الإمبريالية الأمريكية والإمبرياليات الغربية، وتهدد بإغراق الشرق الأوسط بأكمله في حرب مفتوحة قد تستمر لسنوات وتخلف معاناة مروعة في أعقابها.

Nelle prime ore del primo ottobre, l’esercito israeliano ha varcato la frontiera del Libano e ha dato inizio ad un’invasione di terra del paese, dopo due settimane di imponenti attacchi aerei. Si tratta di una guerra totalmente reazionaria, appoggiata e finanziata dagli Stati Uniti e dall’imperialismo occidentale, che minaccia di coinvolgere l’intero Medio Oriente in una guerra aperta, che potrebbe durare per anni e lasciare dietro di sé sofferenze atroci.

Na madrugada de 1 de outubro, o exército israelita atravessou a fronteira do Líbano e iniciou uma invasão terrestre do país, após duas semanas de pesados ataques aéreos. Trata-se de uma guerra profundamente reacionária, apoiada e financiada pelo imperialismo norte-americano e Ocidental, que ameaça engolir todo o Médio Oriente numa guerra aberta, que poderá durar anos e deixar um sofrimento angustiante. 

Zračnim udarima pogođeno je više od 1600 meta unutar libanonskog teritorija u ponedjeljak 23. rujna, prvoga dana izraelske kampanje bombardiranja. Oko 500 ljudi je poginulo, a više od 1600 je ozlijeđeno, dok su deseci tisuća izbjegli iz južnih krajeva zemlje. Počeo je neobjavljeni rat Izraela protiv Hezbollaha.
