How the Communist Tendency of Syriza voted at the recent meeting of the Central Committee of Syriza and the misguided choices of the ‘Left Platform’.
The two Communist Tendency of Syriza members present at the recent Syriza Central Committee (CC) meeting (namely, Stamatis Karayannopoulos and Orestis Doulos, the latter replacing Evi Tounda who is pregnant) voted in the following way:
-
we voted against the Political Bureau’s ‘Political Decision’ (which, amongst other things, included the proposal/provision that the SYRIZA governance programme would be shaped by a ‘forum’ of intellectuals and of various bodies…);
-
we voted against the proposal-package regarding the candidates for the Athens mayoral and regional elections, which outrageously included, amongst other unsavoury characters, Odysseas Voudouris, an MP who had previously voted in favour of the Memorandum and the programmatic statements of the Samaras government.
We deem our SYRIZA comrades in the ‘Left Platform’ to have made a grave mistake in their voting behaviour at the CC meeting. They, too, ought to have voted against both the ‘Political Decision’ (in the event, they abstained), which included points that, essentially, were social-democratic, and the proposal-package with the candidates mentioned above (in the event, they cast no vote on that matter either). In relation to the latter, they ought to have withdrawn their own (i.e., Left Platform) proposed candidates from that proposal-package (of SYRIZA candidates) and to have voted a resounding ‘against’ any proposal that contained the candidature of Voudouris, which has, quite understandably, caused such outrage amongst the Left base and rank and file of SYRIZA.
